Projecto Roots and Wings/Raízes e Asas

The Arte-Via Cooperative is an institution without lucrative purposes that develops its action in a local, regional and national level. Its context is inserted in a social, economical and gender inequality. Therefore, we try to fill in some necessities with an informal formation program according to the basilar European principles of apprenticeship throughout life.
Until now, our activity has always had the support, either from the population, or from public or private institutions, local and regional. Since 1999, when Arte-Via was founded, we gave a major contribute to the cultural development, in a large sense of the region where we are integrated.
We are conscious that if we don’t grow up, we die, that’s why, since always, we are interested in involving ourselves in European projects, which was only possible last year. We reached the conclusion, after a year of the project “roots and wings”, this is the future we shall tread, in a bigger and diverse partnership with other European institutions, developing a sharing process of apprenticeship, experiences and good practices. What we have learned and have made this year is the proof that we shouldn’t stop to follow this path of union and diversity, involving actively always, and each time more, people and institutions of these European projects.
We bet in a continuous growth of the roots to the wings and/or in the creation of the wings to lay the foundation of the roots.
Project roots and wings
Different types of institutions, from different countries, involved in the formal and informal senior’s education, built this partnership with the goal, knowing the roots, past and present of the apprentices, giving those wings for the future. The partners will work in that sense, using diverse processes and methods, but all leading to the same objective. Understanding their roots, the senior participants will be able to look at the future more confident and with more self-esteem, enjoying their lives and cultures, creating a net through Europe.
The first year of the project is to define the target groups of the senior apprentices, including immigrants, citizens of lower social levels, their needs and expectations and the forms to determined, through which, the participant institutions can cooperate, integrate and enlarge their experience and knowledge.
The next step implies the work meetings between partners, to share ideas and results and develop educational activities as exhibitions (Spain), conferences (Portugal), meetings (Finland and Germany) and interactive presentations, in the last public event that will take place during the “Week of Adult Learners” in Scotland. It will also be created educational programmes, web pages (Austria), and build a database with the biography of different European migrants, which will be available for documentation and research. In the second year, the execution and evaluation of the activities will take place.
With this project we hope to achieve the definition of new methodologies to the senior educators, in the learning context throughout life, according to the needs and expectations of that target group.
The dissemination of the project will be made through publishing, web pages, reports, media, conferences, exhibitions, magazines and other means.
